At our 2023 Annual Meeting, we were externally focused and we started some really rich conversations about best practices for amplifying community voice in our research, teaching and activism. After the meeting, I began to reflect on our Strategic Plan and on our diverse MSS membership, and wondered if we could do better to make our leadership reflect the lived experiences of our members and of our students. I reached out to some of our regional organizations and realized that this is a discipline-wide issue. With their blessing, I have put together two really exciting panels. In these two panels, I will facilitate conversations between creative leaders in our field. Over these panels, we will discuss: How can we create more pathways for diversifying thought leadership in our organizations and academic homes? Knowing the power of the sociological imagination for all kinds of social problems, how can we best prepare our students for careers outside/alongside of the traditional pathways?

I invite you, whether or not you are a member of a sociological organization or in academia, to join this conversation. We can work together to (re)create a field that works with and for sociologists of all stripes.
