Organizational Status

MSS is a 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1936, and incorporated under the laws of the State of Missouri in 1961.

Financial Status

  • MSS is exempt from sales tax in Missouri and Wisconsin.
  • MSS is professionally audited each year; and files all tax returns in accordance with federal law.
  • The MSS fiscal year begins Sept 1. and ends Aug. 31.
  • Contributions to the MSS are tax deductible.

Midwest Sociological Society files a Form 990 with the Internal Revenue Service, which includes financial data and information about MSS's governance, management, and programs.

IRS DETERMINATION LETTER

Midwest Sociological Society's IRS Determination Letter verifies that MSS is recognized as a tax exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. MSS also holds a 501(h) election, which allows us greater opportunity to lobby without reporting requirements.
